Working with flowers has been a lifelong dream of mine, I always envisioned myself aging beautifully in nature, working with flowers, being outside. I even thought in my retirement I would be a florist. Scroll back to the end of 2020 when I realized I should dive in to this lifelong dream of mine. I reached out to Sarah of SAIPUA and applied for their floral design residency on their farm and Esperance New York. What a life changing experience it was, it still is, it made me realize that lifelong dream is now.
I spent an entire week on a beautiful farm immersed in nature, I stayed in the sweetest little cabin and I played in the flower fields learning from amazing women. We created such beautiful, thoughtful, intelligent, creative floral designs, pottery, meals and artwork.
Some of my most memorable takeaways were that coming in with this grand idea of what you want to create, rather look around at the beauty in front of you, that is where your inspiration must come from. You create from observing the natural beauty, what does the flower want to be seen as. What flowers are in bloom. Your creations are of a place and time. I left with confidence to continue making beautiful floral ensembles. How can we borrow from nature and bring its beauty and joy to others.
